The company was incorporated in New Zealand in July 2005 and is a private company.
Over 99% of Crest is owned by New Zealanders.

In March 2011 the company was granted consents by the New Zealand Minister of Conservation
to develop a tidal power station in the Kaipara Harbour.

Crest financing to date has been entirely provided by shareholders. The September
2007 and the April 2010 Invitations to eligible investors to apply for shares in
Crest Energy Limitedwere not offered to the general public. Both investment
rounds were modestly oversubscribed.

Leading New Zealand energy producer and retailer
Todd Energy acquired a cornerstone shareholding in Crest Energy in mid 2009.
In conjunction with various joint venture partners, Todd Energy has ownership of
a number of facilities that are responsible for over 90% of New Zealand's hydrocarbon
energy production.
